5/1/10
Today was our FINAL exercise. We had to carry out a mass casualty evacuation as part of the requirements for passing out. Our whole MOC was split into 2 teams; my team was assigned the day shift so we were the rescuers during the day-time and casualties at night.
Whilst we were planning our strategy for quickly setting up and evacuating the casualties in the room, the other team had to dress up like zombies with their "lifelike" injuries since their roles were to be casualties. It was quite hilarious actually, like the zombie horde from L4D2.
In total, we had to "semula" THREE times because we made mistakes. During those attempts, my role was a rescuer IC, so I had to quickly locate and evacuate casualties using the stretcher, whilst performing the relevant injury dressings.
DURING ONE OF THOSE THREE ATTEMPTS, ME AND MY PARTNER CHANCED UPON THE DREADED 100KG MALAYSIAN HIPPO. HE HAD TO BE EVACUATED IMMEDIATELY SINCE HE HAD P1 INJURIES (VERY SEVERE INJURIES).
I injured my back slightly while carrying him and had to rest for a while. Even 4 people had difficulty carrying that bloody dinosaur.
Also, kudos to some of the casualties for making an effort to be rescued. One of the patients, who had a GCS scale of 1/1/1 (COMA), was found to be able to walk to the triage area to be rescued. Others with leg fractures happily walked over to the stretcher and placed themselves in supine position to be rescued.
The night time was similar. We had to play casualties and it was our turn to be the zombies. The instructor bloody anyhow splash paint all over me even though my injury was only an amputated finger wtf.
You can sense the urgency to go back home. Even the "dead" casualties were pointing their torchlights at the direction of the incoming rescuers whilst the patients with fractures did their own dressing while the rescuers prepared the stretcher.
In the end we ended around 11pm. I reached home around 12am and was exhausted.

Today was our POC date, where the dreaded postings were to be released. In gleeful anticipation, I purposely woke up and left the house VERY late. Thing is: I should have woken up even later. We did not get our postings until 4pm so we were doing NOTHING until 2pm, which is when our Passing Out Ceremony started.
Our POC was HILARIOUS. We had to choose our favourite instructors and the least favourite ones.
There were the famous sleepers, who could fall asleep within a record 5 minutes anywhere and anytime. Their replies were EPIC.
Instructor: So who is your least favourite instructor.
Loke: I'm not awake most of the time so I'm not sure who.
After a whole day of boredom, we got our postings, but I was posted somewhere I did not really want to go.
HQ as a Medical Orderly :( it's going to be a lonnnnnnnnggggggggg 2 years.
